Salem Community College welcomes the public to the Samuel H. Jones Glass Education Center on Saturday and Sunday, May 14 and 15, 10 am to 5pm each day, for our "Arts in Bloom" Glass Center Open House! There will be so much activity at the glass center over the weekend! You won't want to miss it!
The SCC's Glass Club's May sale will feature handmade glass including ornaments, flowers, jewelry, vases and paperweights. Admission to the Glass Education Center and the sale is free. While visiting the center, guests may tour SCC's incredible glass studio, view our gallery, and permanent collections, and see glassmaking in action!
On Saturday and Sunday we will be offering a hands on project for kids as a part of the Arts in Bloom tour's "Dig into Art" experiences. Details below. Learn more about Salem County's Arts in Bloom at www.artsinbloomnj.com.
On Sunday, May 15th, the glass center will be running several hands on glass workshops. No glass experience is necessary, but please note minimum age requirements. Additional workshop information is listed below.

Salem County Arts in Bloom! FREE "Dig Into Art" Project for Kids!
Saturday and Sunday, 10 AM to 5 PM
May's Open House and Workshop event is running during our weekend long open house for Salem County's Arts in Bloom. The Glass Center will be open both Saturday and Sunday, between 10 AM and 5 PM, for guests to tour the center and to observe glassmaking in action! We will also be hosting a free activity for families.
"Stained Glass" Votive Holders - FREE Dig Into Art Activity (until supplies run out) - Participants will create translucent colorful votive holders that give the appearance of stained glass. This activity is open to all under the age of 18 while supplies last.

Hands on Glass Experiences!
Available Workshops on Sunday, May 15th:
Fused Glass Summer Suncatchers*, 1.5 hour session from 12:30pm-2:00pm, or 2:30pm-4:00pm, $45.00 per person- Participants will create their own beautiful summer themed fused glass suncatcher to display in a window by layering pieces of flat glass and enamels and heating them in a kiln. Ages 4 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Flameworked Floral Pendant Beads*, 3 hour session from 1pm-4pm, $60.00 per person- Attendees use heat, gravity and simple tools to create glass floral focal beads (pendants). Ages 10 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Hot Glass Paperweights*, 1.5 hour sessions between 12:00pm-1:30pm, or 2:30pm-4pm, $75.00- Participants will create a glass paperweight from the furnace in our glassblowing studio! Ages 14 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
(*Due to the process, items will need to be picked up at a later date, or can be shipped for an additional fee.)
